READ MORE: ‘It Was Iconic’: Tyrin Turner Admits He Tried to Sabotage ‘Belly’ with His Goofy Performance as Rico
Actor Tyrin Turner admitted that he intentionally tried to sabotage the 1998 film “Belly” after the lead role went to rapper DMX. Turner shared the story during a recent appearance on the “Dub C & CJ Mac Show” earlier this month.
He eventually went on to play the role of Big Head Rico, but claims he was promised the lead role of Tommy “Buns” Bundy by the film’s director, Hype Williams.
The role ultimately went to the late “Who We Be” artist, who passed away in 2021 from a cocaine/fentanyl-induced heart attack.
“I met Hype Williams, I did the ‘Mary Jane’ video for Scarface, and so then Hype was like, ‘I got this movie called ‘Belly.’ I want you to be DMX’s character,” he recalled on April 9.
“But DMX wasn’t out then, he was just like, that’s what he wanted,” said Turner. “A few months later, he was like, ‘We got this dude named DMX, he the next one from New York — it was a New York movie.’ He say he was gon’ go in that direction. It was cool; at first I was irritated ‘cuz I was like, ‘Damn, you said you wanted me.’ ”

Turner went on to say that he was offered another role in the film, but he was still irritated and told himself he would make his character goofy on purpose to sabotage the film.
“I was mad that I didn’t have the lead,” he added. “I’m young and I didn’t get the character I wanted so I’m like, ‘I’m finna f—k this movie up!” he explained.
“I’m gonna put on some glasses and I’m gonna be the worse country snitchin’ dude that I could ever be.’ But I’m thinking that I’m sabotaging the movie.”

He went on to joke about his performance, helping to make the film “iconic.”
“It was iconic. I couldn’t even f—k up what I wanted,” he added as the hosts laughed and noted how perfect he was in the role.
Turner’s character Rico eats a banana in one scene as he delivers one of the film’s classic lines.
“I might have to drop a dime on them n—as,” he said. “You know what I’m saying? I don’t like that s—t.”
Turner is also best known for his startling role as Caine in 1993’s “Menace II Society.” His serious role in the film was the complete opposite of his character in “Belly.”
The film brought in approximately $9.6 million at the box office, more than three times the movie’s budget. The film also starred rappers Nas and Method Man and Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins of TLC fame.
SNOOP DOGG FANS BEG FOR NEW EASTSIDAZ ALBUM FOLLOWING GOLDIE LOC & TRAY DEEE REUNION
Snoop Dogg has stoked the reunion fires in reference to a potential new Eastsidaz album after he reunited with Goldie Loc and Tray Deee during a recent performance.
On Friday (June 2), Tha Doggfather posted a video on Instagram of the legendary West Coast group performing “Another Day” from their debut album Snoop Dogg Presents: Tha Eastsidaz which was released in 2000.
“E. Sliders come out and plaaaaaayaaaaah. @mr_goldie_loc @big_traydeee,” Snoop said in the caption.
Snoop Dogg then uploaded a photo with himself alongside his two compadres which is reminiscent to the way they took photos back in the day with Goldie Loc to the left, Snoop taking center stage and Big Tray Deee in the far right corner. “@mr_goldie_loc @big_traydeee crippn. Cuzns,” he captioned the post.

Under the comments section of both posts, fans were clamoring for answers as to whether or not their recent link up will lead to them releasing a full album again.
“Can we get another east sidaz album?” one fan asked, while another wrote: “Aw shit they coming back with some new heat? Hope so [fire emoji].”
A third fan added: “we need an another album the world would love that [fire emojis].”
The last time all three rappers appeared same track was on 2021’s “Hood Creeps Out at Night,” per Complex. While the video taps into a variety of scary movie wrapped into one package, the song samples Whodini’s 1984 hit, “Freaks Come Out At Night.”
In 2009, Tray Deee, who was serving a 12-year prison sentence for attempted murder at the time, spoke about Tha Eastsidaz breakup and how he was back in touch with Snoop.
“I finally enjoyed a warm conversation with Snoop Dogg after over five years of no communication whatsoever,” said Tray Deee. “We agreed to let the past go like water under the proverbial bridge and we even shared a few genuine laughs…Now Goldie Loc, he has never exhibited any degree of loyalty toward me.”
He continued: “I would hope that Snoop Dogg and I could recapture that vibe that we once shared, and salvage the wonderful history that we created. It’s his call at this point. Barring some extraordinary events transpiring between now and my release, I have no interest of fuckin’ with Goldie Loc ever again – except to be compensated by him for prominently featured on his [Still Eastsidin’] CD.”
Tha Eastsidaz were formed in 2000. As a rap collective, they released two albums including the platinum-selling Snoop Dogg Presents: Tha Eastsidaz in 2000, and Duces ‘n Trayz: The Old Fashioned Way in 2001.
Songs from Snoop Dogg Presents: Tha Eastsidaz appeared in hood classics such as Baby Boy and The Wash. The trio have had issues in the past but it appears it’s all water under the bridge now.
