Inside the event, Gomez seemingly addressed rumors that she was stepping down from her cosmetics line, Rare Beauty.

The brand, which debuted in 2020, is dedicated to destigmatizing mental health and allocates 1% of its sales to support the Rare Impact Fund, offering young individuals access to mental health services.

“I didn’t want to delve into the cosmetics industry without a purpose,” Gomez shared during the Summit. “It was a dream that evolved within this brand, and we were also able to produce hopefully quality products.”

The former Disney star recently attended a celebration for Rare Beauty’s latest product, the Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush. At the April 6 event, she embraced yet another monochromatic ensemble, opting for a silky pink button-down dress with a subtle paisley pattern. Completing her laid-back look, she draped a baby pink coat over her shoulders and accessorized with pointed pink pumps adorned with small ribbons.

True to Rare Beauty’s ethos, the Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush features shade names linked to positivity and mental health, such as Cheer and Happy.

“I firmly believe in the power of positivity, and I love that our product names serve as gentle reminders, each named after a kind word,” Gomez expressed during the product launch. “I’m incredibly proud that our brand’s purpose extends to our product names, reflecting our company’s values.”

She continued, “Our aim is to initiate conversations, offer resources, and provide a platform for individuals to share their stories. We want people to understand that mental health matters, and everyone deserves support and empathy.”

Selena Gomez is shedding light on the beauty industry.

The 31-year-old singer and actress took the stage at the Time100 Summit in New York City to discuss the impact of her cosmetics line, Rare Beauty. During the event on Wednesday, April 24, Gomez shared how her own struggles with unrealistic beauty standards influenced the creation of the brand.

“Personally, I felt that there’s a very unrealistic standard when it comes to the cosmetic world and it makes me a little sad for my generation,” she expressed during her conversation with Lucy Feldman, senior editor at TIME. “And for anyone to look at something that’s probably touched up and made to look nice is… I just wanted to break that down.”

The Only Murders in the Building star continued, “I don’t know how to do makeup and I have a makeup line.”

Gomez further elaborated that her aim with Rare Beauty was to develop products that didn’t pressure people to conform to a specific appearance.

“I wanted it to feel good when they’re using my products,” she emphasized. “And all of our products are named based on uplifting things, from our Find Comfort line to anything that comes to mind, body and soul, we try to be very conscious of even naming the products to be reminders of joy or just finding yourself. So I genuinely just wanted to make makeup that was fun for people. I don’t believe in having to look a certain way. I spent years trying to do that and it’s draining. Waste of time.”

Rare Beauty debuted in 2020 and, according to an April 15 report from Forbes, is valued at $2 billion.

In addition to offering a range of positivity-centered products, Gomez’s beauty line is committed to reducing the stigma around mental health and donates 1% of sales to support the Rare Impact Fund, which provides young people with access to mental health services.

“I didn’t want to really enter the cosmetics world without a mission,” Gomez said during the summit. “It was actually a dream that kind of happened within this brand, and on top of it we were able to make hopefully decent products.”
